This article is about RSS feeds and how they can be used in the classroom environment. The author explains that RSS means really simple syndication and that it allows people to follow topics and blogs that are interesting to them. Almost all newspapers offer them, and they are on iTunes and blogs and are a way to track topics and stay current with friends and news. Examples are stated about how RSS can be incorporated in the classroom, such as having each student create a blog and work with other students and submit assignments through their blog.
To your knowledge how can RSS feeds be incorporated into teaching?
I think RSS feeds have become extremely popular on the Internet with Facebook and almost all news articles being able to be shared. Classes that look at current events in the news can use RSS feed to help collaborate and share resources they find. Also like the article stated RSS feeds and blogs can be integrated into course just like this Blog has for EDU 422.
Is there a down side to research done using RSS feeds only?
Yes, I believe that students need to make sure they are using historical sources that maybe not available on the Internet and only in school or public libraries.

In this article Maureen Brown Yoder discusses MUVEs, which is defined as “Internet-based multiuser virtual environments”. Yoder states that MUVEs are becoming increasingly more popular especially to children. The author says that these virtual environments can be content rich and a place where children can learn social, technical, and practical life skills in a fun environmet. The article describes a specific MUVE, called Second Life and states that it is safe because students can only be added to, Second Life by their teacher. MUVEs have been applied to subjects, such as science. It was seen that students enjoyed the program so much they decided to continue their learning at home.
Have you ever participated in a MUVE?
No, I haven’t but I have heard of this type of virtual environment applied to video games. I have heard that the game World of War Craft has been very popular with gamers and that if this virtual environment was applied academically the outcome would be just as popular.
After reading this article would you feel it is safe to participate and have students participate in MUVEs?
Yes, I believe before teaching anything on the internet it is important to teach students about their virtual identity and internet safety. Especially because the MUVE is authorizing students to use it only and having them have their own user name and password it would be safe.

Anderson, L. S., & Hildenbrand, E. K. (2009, October). Point/Counter Point: Can Facebook Replace Face-to-Face?. Retrieved October 1, 2009, from ISTE.
This article described Facebook as a social networking website and also asked the question if Facebook could replace face-to-face encounters. It gave two different peoples perspectives. The first was that of Larry S. Anderson, who stated yes, it could replace face-to-face. He stated that Facebook allows judgments of people to be overseen because it is online and opinions can be heard with less fear of rejection. The other perspective was against Facebook, Ellen Hildenbrand felt that online communication can be wrongly construed and it takes out the person ability some may get from the face-to-face atmosphere.
What is your opinion on the social networking cite Facebook?
I believe Facebook is a great way of communicating with others but can have some negative aspects. I believe written work can lead to misleading perspectives on what people may trying to say. For example, sarcasm cannot be shown as well trough text and can sometimes be mistaken for the words literal meaning.
What are some other social networking websites and can they be considered a possibility of replacing face-to-face?
Another website that is similar to Facebook and can be consider to replace face-to-face would be Myspace. Twitter can also be considered but it is a little different because it is considered micro-blogging and has a limitation to how much you can say at one point in time.

This article is about different ways of integrating technology into the classroom. The authors believe the first-step in implementing technological based teaching is to make sure educators are aware of the technology available to them. They believe this creates a grounded approach to the integration of technology in the lesson plans. The article then addresses that processes need to be followed in order to do this:
1. Choose learning goals.
2. Make pedagogical decisions.
3. Select activity types to combine.
4. Select assessment strategies.
5. Select tools/resources.
Do you agree that teaches should be aware of the technology before teaching the lessons?
Yes, I believe that it would be extremely beneficial for both students and the teacher that teachers are well aware of what they are doing before they try to teach it to students.
Why is it important to think about what activity types can be combined?
It’s important due to the limited time a teacher has to make sure students have a firm grasp on the material. If topics are integrated into different subject matter the students will not only have more time that specific criteria, the teacher can see that students are exposed to different subjects at the same time.

This article discussed three different organizations and their relation to integrating technology into education. They did this through distance learning, also known as online instruction for classes. After these organizations implemented their ways of teaching using their form of technology students seemed to be doing better and achieving more out of their education.
Do you think students need some instructional in class time to accompany the online learning?
I think it depends on the students and the subject matter. If the teacher thinks it would be benefical to all the students then it should be mandatory. I believe that no matter what teachers should make themselves available to students because in person instruction is sometimes what a student needs to benefit from the assignment. Also the subject matter being taught can affect the need to in class learning. For example, some topics in science need laboratory settings to aid material something that can be
limited with online resources.
How can educators help students that have limited access to a computer to excel in distance learning?
I think it is important for every school to let students have access to a computer lab that has an abundance of hours of operation. These labs should be well equipt with computers, free printers and copy machines. That way students can print out assignments to do at home then input their answers online when they are at the computer lab.

Journal 10- Computer Science Is Not Just for Big Kids- Nets 5
Grover, Shuchi. "Computer Science Is Not Just for Big Kids ." Learning & Leading with Technology (2009): n. pag. Web. 8 Dec 2009. .
In this article Shuchi Grover, is explaining how computer science is not seen as much as it should be in the elementary school setting. She also states that the definition of computer science is defined wrong. The term is just related to computers and that people do not take in count all the other aspects of the Computer science subject, such as “algorithmic thinking, Boolean logic, functional abstraction, and data organization and management.” She then goes in depth in relating algorithmic thinking, data and structure databases and Booleanian logic for critical thinking.
Why is computer science not popular in the elementary school setting?
My personal opinion is because teachers are not well aware of how they can apply computer science and technology into their teaching. It is important that teaches research and peruses different types of teaching in order to instill creativity into students.
Other than computers what other digital tools can help teach computer science?
I believe computer science can be taught using different instruments such as, calculators, microscopes and even music instruments. Some teachers don’t know how to apply of forms of technology besides the computer.

This article was written by Lisa Bucciarelli; who is a Spanish level one and AP Spanish teacher. She went to NECC 2007 and was excited to use the web 2.0 digital tools in her classroom. She did this by having her students create an e-portfolio of their course work using the free website myeport.com. She stated that she knew she had a students with a variety of technological abilities and addressed this by making sure students completely understood their assignments and made sure she just did not do it for them. She also provided the article with sample assignments she used in their e-portfolio.
Would it be easy to loose focus of the subject at hand when using technology in foreign language subjects?
I believe it could be but it extremely important for the teacher to first focus on the specific goal at hand then use the technology to aid in reaching that goal. I believe by adding in technology to the subject matter it allows for more creativity and students will learn more because they enjoy the assignment.
What would be the biggest challenge when integrating technology into different subjects?
I believe the biggest challenge would be the distraction level. If the student has a problem with the technical terminology used in describing the assignment they may be discourage from learning the subject at hand.

This article Keep Your Tweets To Yourself by John Ridley, expresses his negative opinions on social networking websites, in particular Twitter. He knows he sounds like a dinosaur to our new age technology but claims there is no point for people to communicate what they do on a daily basis.
What are the positive purposes for twitter?
I believe twitter can be used on a social level to help keep in touch with friends. It can also be used in the setting, for people who want to share their product with others and get their name out there. The way I have used twitter in my life has been for educational purposes. I was able to share and view others' ways of inter grating technology
Is it hard to constantly use twitter in everyday life?
No, I do not think it is difficult to use twitter considering the large amount of new forms of technology out there today. Twitter and many other forms of social networking can be accessed by cell phones and computers. Other forms of popular social networking are websites like Facebook or Myspace.

Kohn, A. (2006). The Trouble with Rubrics. English Journal, 95(4), Retrieved October 6, 2009 from
http://www.alfiekohn.org/teaching/rubrics.htm
In this article the author Kohn, explained his opinion on using rubrics to grade students work. He claims that he does not like rubrics because educators have said rubrics make grading work quick and easy. He believes the assessment of students work should be looked at with more attention. He also stated that students then take less value in heir own work because they don’t believe they have to achieve as much in their assignments. He does say that rubrics can be used as long as used wisely. In order to use rubrics wisely they need to be created with specifications that pertain to the assignments and have much thought and effort put in when they are created.
What is your aspect on the use of rubrics for grading?
I believe a rubric’s value is at the teacher’s disposal. If the teacher sincerely reads at the assignment in full and takes an interest to all major and minor details they can be a beneficial way of organizing the assignment specifications and requirements. I believe if a teacher uses the comments to give a detailed description of why they gave that grade students can feel that their work is valued.
Are there specific subjects that rubrics work better with?
I believe that rubrics would work horrible for math considering the answers of math problems are either graded right or wrong, and the work shown should be considered when graded. Subjects like social sciences and writing material could be a better fit with rubrics because they could be better graded on a hit or miss basis. Rubrics seem to me to have a problem indentifying the grey matter between grades.

Journal 7-Classroom 2.0- Social Networking-Nets 5
The tool I view in Classroom 2.0 was social networking. Social Networking is a way of connecting with other who have a common interest, whether that be to share ideas for educational purposes, getting others to be interested in what you have to offer, such as a business deal or just communicating with friends. The most common site for social networking, was through Ning. Some said this is due to the privacy offered, “embed media, the forums feature, the ability to personalize pages, the embedded blogging, groups, and the chat options.” (Cofino) Another extremely popular site is Facebook and this site is great because almost every one has a Facebook site so social networking is particularly easy. There are even specified social networking site, such as SchoolTown.net which could be a great resource for educators.
Another thread I read was, “The Value of a Social Network?”, this focused on the negative aspects in the educational aspect of social networking. One reply stated, “There are upwards of 7 million teachers in the US. Maybe 7,000 are doing anything with Web 2.0 BECAUSE of the 65,000 school districts, damn near all of them are blocking access to the very tools the teachers need to transform their practice.” This is true schools block a lot of useful potential teaching applications from the internet. I suggest that the blocking of certain things on the internet should be reevaluated, or making it possible for some teachers to be able to unblock certain sites when they are needed for instructional purposes.

1. In the National Achieves I viewed/read about the United States Constitution. If I were to be writing a paper on this topic it would be extremely useful, to have this factual information. It is written clearly and in normal English, not overly intellectual or over simplified.Having this site to reference as primary sources would improve the quality of a paper or journal. Primary sources makes this creditable and it is important to accurate times and dates of the material being covered. This also gives the reader a more personal feeling from the information, especially because it is factual information.

Logical-Mathematical
Interpersonal
I learned interesting things about how children learn best from the video. I like how the children say they are smart in certain ways, saying that they are all smart but have different strengths. It is important as a teacher to know that children learn best different ways. Knowing how the students learn best is a good starting point for planning lesson plans.

Compared with White women, how likely are African American women in the U.S. to die during childbirth due to a lack of access to prenatal care, according to the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality?
The correct answer was four times as likely.
I find this interesting because I didn't think there was still racism pertaining to health care. I thought there would be laws to protect everyone's rights to basic health care.
Compared with their U.S.-born peers, how likely are immigrant men in the U.S., ages 18-39, to be in jail or prison, according to a 2008 report from the Immigration Policy Center?
The correct answer was 5 times less likely.
This is interesting to me, but I can see why it is true. People immigrate to the US for a better living and better oppurtunities which would make them less likely to want to jeperdize those gained freedoms by breaking the law.

Netiquette is a being polite and curdious when using the internet, whether it be through email or in chat rooms. Not using nettiquette can make others : ( or }: [.

- This would help being awareness to cultural differences and how it could effect the schools. The students will understand that every one no matter what their culture may be is accounted for and parents can understand what knows every one's education is important to the school.
Network with other schools that are developing and implementing culturally competent systems. Adapt the processes and information that are consistent with your school's needs and interests.
- Involving other educators could be helpful in creating an environment of less ignorant to diversity.
- Getting correct knowledge of other cultures makes it easier to see potential clashes in cultural beliefs and also gives every one involved knowledge about other peoples beliefs.

Under "subject access" title I read about special education resources which had a link to a Speech Language Pathologist group through Yahoo Health. I believe this could be useful for me and others that might be going into that profession.
5. Multiple Intelligence
My top 3 intelligences are:
Intrapersonal
Logical-Mathematical
Interpersonal
I learned interesting things about how children learn best from the video. I like how the children say they are smart in certain ways, saying that they are all smart but have different strengths. It is important as a teacher to know that children learn best different ways. Knowing how the students learn best is a good starting point for planning lesson plans.
6. Teaching Tolerance Lesson Idea
Preschoool- 1st grade
Language Arts
Social Studies
This lesson uses two children's books to teach small children that everyone is unique and different. I would use it when teacher small children about individualism and diversity.

7. EdChange Multicultural Awareness
8. Nettiquette
100% score
Netiquette is a being polite and curdious when using the internet, whether it be through email or in chat rooms. It is important to teach this to students because they are going to be using the internet a lot in the future and by teaching them that it can be best used as a tool and not a toy can be beneficial to them and the other people they may come in contact with. Not using nettiquette can make others : ( or }: [.
In this assignment I went on a virtual scavenger hunt using the internet.
Classroom Newsletter-Nets 2&3
Newsletters A
Using Microsoft Word, I was able to format a template for a newsletter incorporating graphics, customs bullets, and drop caps, while also presenting a use of technology in a classroom setting. Creating a classroom newsletter also promotes students' creativity and inspires individual learning.

All About Me!
Hello my name is Sarah! This is my fourth year at CSUSM and I cam here right out of high school. I have an amazing boyfriend and a wonderful almost two year old son and am currently 4 1/2 months pregnant with my second. I am not normally this big, it is a baby bump! lol I have lived in Oceanside almost my whole life. I went to Christa McAuliffe Elementary, Lincoln Middle School and El Camino High School. Now I am working on my BA in Liberal Studies and hoping to get my masters in Speech Pathology/ Communicative Disorders eventually!
I am definitely a Mac person, my family only uses Macs! But I am not an expert I am learning new things about the laptop I have had for over 3 years everyday. I am slightly familiar with PCs also just because I have had to use them for school before. I am constantly using technology I am on my computer on a daily basis and ever since I got my new mytouch cell I am on that all the time. I am more familiar with the Microsoft office for the Mac rather then PC.
The part of the CSUSM/COE mission statement that I really like would be how it says that the mission in equality and justice is shown through reflective teaching and innovative research this shows that things change over time and the COE is using different methods to address that and not just have the same strict outline.
